The film presents the wedding rite complex of the late 19th century and early 20th century. Its content is comprised of the bride's rites of passage into the married woman state, beliefs and magical actions that strengthen the family and promote fertility. The film shows the bride parting with her rue garden, which is seen as a symbol of youth. It then shows the traditions associated with the braiding of rue wreaths, the seating of the bride on the breadbucket, the meeting of the groom and this entourage, the presenting of the wreath, the bride parting with her family homestead, the taunting and bartering between the bridal party and the groom's party, gift-giving, the matron of honour feast, the adorning of the bride with a married woman's headress and the bedding and waking of the new couple.
