- The Amber Road, stretching across Germanic and "Aestii" (Baltic) lands, enjoined Northern and Southern Europe during the 1st and 2nd centuries B.C. The civilizations of Rome and the Baltic Sea interacted along its route. For several centuries, all sorts of people walked this road - Roamans, Germanic peoples and the Balts themselves.
This film is full of interesting historical tales, such as that of Juliena, the organizer of the gladiator games for Emperor Nero, who sent a horseman to bring back amber from the land of the "Aestii"; he carried so much that even all of his weapons and everyday tools were decorated with amber -- the heaviest piece alone weighed 13 pounds. This fascinating documentary features scenes of mighty battles, everyday life in antiquity, fortresses, ruins of shrines and the exacting work of archeologists.
