  • The Jewish culture of Central and Eastern Europe, that evolved and existed for no less than ten centuries, represented a unique modus of living of thousands of Jewish communities in the dialectics of their inner development and cultural and everyday relations with their neighbours. The Holocaust has destroyed not only the Jewish culture of Europe along with the majority of its bearers, but also the whole common-European conglomerate, an inseparable part of which was the “Jewish presence” in Europe. The perception of this perspective of the loss makes an increasingly large number of researchers turn to various aspects of the history and culture of the Jewish communities of Europe.
By initiating the PINKAS annual, the Center for Studies of the Culture and History of East European Jews intends to make an input into the development of Judaic studies in Eastern Europe and to present a new academic forum, uniting the region scholars and their Western and Israeli colleagues.
  • In English, 271 pages
    Format: 8 1/2x6 inches (21x15 cm), paperback.
