- The birbyne is a small horn. Its tube was wooden, 25-30 cm. long, with 5-7 holes and a tied reed-tongue. Its bell was made of a ram, ox, cow or kid horn. Blowing softly it has a very sweet and pleasant timbre, whereas blowing hard – sharp and penetrating.
This Birbyne is a chromatic instrument, of professional quality, and can play 2 1/2 chromatic octaves.
